In January 1960, a solo exhibition of Macdonald’s work opened at Dorothy Cameron’s gallery, Here and Now. This was one of the most progressive commercial galleries in the city. In this exhibition, Macdonald showed the yellow paintings created in 1959, as well as two works completed early in 1960, Veils of Morning, and this painting, Far Off Drums. In Far Off Drums, Macdonald returns to drawing and the use of line to bring structure to the composition. The ground of this work is comprised of softly applied regions of colour but it is line that brings shape to the forms.
